Cookie Policy

What cookies are and why we use them

Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your device. They let the site work, remember your choices and tell us how it is used. This policy applies to harboroughchamber.co.uk, run by Market Harborough Chamber of Trade and Commerce, and should be read with our Privacy Policy.

We use two kinds of cookie: ones the site needs to work, and ones set by third-party content we embed. We only set the second kind if you agree through our cookie banner. We also measure how the site is used with an analytics tool that does not use cookies.

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are essential for the site to work, so they do not need your consent and cannot be switched off in our banner. They keep you signed in to your member account, hold your basket and checkout details while you join or buy a ticket, protect the site against misuse, and remember your cookie choices.

Purpose Set by Typical duration
Member login and account session This website (WordPress) Session, or up to 14 days if you choose “remember me”
Basket and checkout This website (SureCart) Session
Remembering your cookie choice Our cookie banner Up to 12 months

If you block these cookies in your browser, parts of the site, including member login and checkout, will not work.

Analytics

We use Independent Analytics to count visitors and see which pages, events and directory listings are most popular. This helps us improve the site and show members how much attention the Chamber’s content receives.

Independent Analytics runs on our own website and does not set cookies or store anything on your device. It records which pages are viewed and general details such as the browser, device type and approximate location, without identifying you personally. The data stays on our own website and is not sent to other companies. We use the results as anonymous, combined statistics.

Because Independent Analytics does not use cookies, it does not need a cookie choice from you.

Third-party content cookies

Some pages embed content from other companies, such as maps showing where an event is held, videos, and social media posts or buttons. When you load this content, the provider can set its own cookies and collect information about you, even if you do not interact with it.

  • Maps and videos: Google (including Google Maps and YouTube).
  • Social media: the platform whose feed or button is shown, such as Facebook, LinkedIn or X.

We load this content only after you accept the relevant cookies. Each provider controls its own cookies, and you can read how they use data in their privacy and cookie policies.

Managing your cookie choices

When you first visit, our cookie banner asks you to accept or decline non-essential cookies. Declining is as easy as accepting, and the site works the same either way. You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link in the website footer, which reopens the banner.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Guidance for common browsers is at aboutcookies.org. Blocking all cookies may stop some features working.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy when we change the cookies we use. The date at the top shows the latest version.

Questions about cookies can go to secretary@harboroughchamber.co.uk. For how we handle personal data more generally, see our Privacy Policy.
